Being stuck indoors and unable to visit your friends and family can be a bit of a drag. This lock down thing was easier in the beginning but I'm sure many are having a hard time staying inside the longer it goes on.
Now we have to do this thing called social distancing which is unnatural to many of us.
Finding things to do to keep busy inside, well at least in your yard if you're lucky enough to have one, is not always easy. Don't fret though; I've got some ideas for you to help keep yourself busy, you know, just in case you run out.
WHAT TO DO WHILE SOCIAL DISTANCING
Do some soul searching
Now that there are fewer distractions, it's a good time to dig a little deeper and do some soul searching.
It has been said that the answers to many of the things we'd like to accomplish and the means to do so lie within us. Who knows, you might discover your true purpose in life.
Also try praying and meditating.
Work on your blog and if you don't have one now's a great time to get started!
Starting a blog and creating your site is actually super easy and fun. There are many platforms you can use to host your blog like this one, for example, others include Bloglovin, Blogger and WordPress. There are other platforms just look around and find one that you think is best for you. If you can't decide then you could ask some already established bloggers which platforms they think are best.
You can turn your passion whether it be just writing in general, fashion, photography or whatever into a blog and share your ideas with others. You can even teach others how to become good at it and connect with like-minded individuals.
Improve your existing skills or learn a new one
I'm sure there's a skill you feel that you could be better at. Now is the time to work on skill improvement.
If you're satisfied with your skill level at the moment why not pick a new skill to learn and use your extra time taking an online course or practising until you get your skill level to where you would like it to be. It could help you land that job or get a promotion once all this is over.
If for example, you've always wanted to be a makeup artist, there are plenty of tutorials available on platforms such as YouTube for free and as a bonus, there's plenty of times to practice until you nail it!
I plan on practicing how to apply my own makeup so that my make up game will be on point!
(not that I can't right now but there's room for improvement)
Reading is a great distraction and an awesome way to spend your free time. Grab a book and escape the world for a bit or read up on something that interests you. It's also a great way to expand your vocabulary.
Write book reviews for your site and share your thoughts and recommendations on the books you've been reading with others.
Work on your goals
Now that you have all this extra time on your hands why not pour some of it on working to attain those goals to get you where you want to be in life. Whether it's spending more quality time with your loved ones, getting an A on that module or losing some weight, now that you're confined to your home, why not smash some of those goals.
Prioritize and decide which goals you'd like to accomplish and work out a plan as to how you will go about achieving them. Do a little every day to get you closer to where you want to be.
Varsity might be closed now due to lockdown but you're gonna write all those exams eventually. So why not spend some of your lockdown time on your schoolwork and studying and get great marks? I mean, you do have a whole 24 hours to yourself now. Pour some of it into your future.
Even if you're not in varsity and you're in matric; if you study hard enough you could score yourself a scholarship to your dream college. College is freaken expensive!
I've personally been spending a lot more time on my academics and making up for falling behind in the first place.
Even if you tell yourself you'll do a minimum of 2 hours a day. That's 2 hours spent towards attaining your academic goals instead of being wasted bingeing on Netflix or any of the other activities that have nothing to do with where you want to be one day. And there's plenty of time to do whatever else you want to do.
In fact, whatever level of education you're currently at, spend some of this downtime on your books and get the best grades you can.
Have a movie marathon with your siblings/family or even by yourself
If you're lucky enough to have access to online streaming platforms then have a movie marathon. I've been doing that on and off between the other activities I've been doing to keep myself busy and I plan on turning it into a blog post so look out for that.
You can even write movie reviews for your own website and share them with others.
Start writing that book you've been thinking about
It's been said that we all have at least 1 book in us, you just need to write it. Believe me, there is someone out there that needs to hear that story you've been dying to tell.
I think I should start writing a book of my own soon as well.
Find a new hobby
If you're a creative person you could try your hand at drawing or painting during this time.
Research something you've been dying to do or learn and start using your free time working on it. Now is a great time to pick up new hobbies such as exercising, sewing, knitting and a variety of others that don't require a second party.
Write a movie script, a song or whatever you've been dreaming about. You could turn it into a huge money-making opportunity once all this is over. A lot of people make a living by finding something that they love doing and turning it into a business.
You could even give gardening a try and grow your own fresh fruit and vegetables in your yard. If you don't have space you can grow your own little herbs to use for cooking in little jars in the kitchen.
Take care of yourself
You don't have to keep busy during this time. Some of us are in dire need of some downtime and lockdown is the perfect time for that. You don't have to find something to do every single day.
Just relax, take a nice long bath when you feel like it, hell pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy a nice quiet, relaxing bath. Sleep in if you feel like it and take advantage of the fact that you don't have to be up at the crack of dawn.
Get the rest that you deserve and take care of your mental health too.
